Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation Practice over the Easter Weekend - 5 April 2015

Image
Easter Practice 2015 We had a great outdoor meditation last week. Our class focussed on yoga built around the second chakra - the svadisthana chakra of the pelvic area. The element is water. We explored how water meditations and pelvic / sacral yoga can help us let go of perceived problems, get the flow back in our lives, as well as get into some technical work with the sacrum and lower back that can be quite beneficial. We are having an Easter Weekend practice. After whatever fun, relaxation, chocolate or whatever is entertaining you, come and join us on the mat on Sunday morning at 10 am for another nude male yoga session. We'll likely be working with other chakra-based practice next week. Chakras are a yogic energy theory - spinning disks of energy are in a chain along the body - they are considered to be areas of focus of our character, how we are manifested in ,life, ranging from our material birth, through our temperament, character, creativity, enthusiasm, ability t

Outdoor meditation before yoga this Sunday 29 March 2015

Dear yogis, This Sunday we are putting together a special event. As the first part of our practice we are doing an outdoor meditation on the new lawns of the wonderful venue we are using. It is a type of urban park with walk ways, fountains and now lush green lawns fed by recycled water off the building. Yeah to ecological greening of our buildings in Cape Town! For this event, we cannot do a naked meditation outdoors do to the sensitivity of the neighbours. You are on the third floor but there is a hotel right across the street. This means bring a bathing suit, shorts or comfortable meditation trousers with you. We recommend you come earlier than usual to get settled. The terrace is in the shade at 10 am so no worries about sunburns for the paler yogis. Note that you have the option of meditation IN the fountains. You may want to connect fully with the water element. It is a great feeling. Otherwise you can sit on a mat on the lawn. If you have a meditation cushion, bring it

29 March & 05 April 2015 - yes we are practicing - join us

A bunch of us had a great time at Spirit Fest 2015 - the big yoga festival in Paarl. Some great offerings including a superb philosophy talk by our very own Gavin R... more on this later. We are confirming that there WILL BE yoga on Easter Sunday - 05 April as well as our regular Sunday class on 29 March. One thing I really was reminded of at Spirit Fest, yoga is a practice which requires constant attention. It does not mean you need to knock yourself out or push past your limits - it does mean that a regular practice refreshes you, inspires you, heals you and keeps you to a path that will open up many opportunities in your life, through friendships, self-awareness, insights and stripping away the crusty bits that life throws your way. We use the body to take us back to the universal and core teachings - the famous 'unity' which is the meaning of yoga. The stilling of the mind to take us to a truth that infuses all of our choices, decisions, moods and directions in life.

Dear yoga brothers, It is time to mark your calendar. We are pleased to announce our next two Cape Men's Yoga retreats at Bodhi Khaya retreat centre in the Cape Overberg. CMY has organised six retreats to date, mostly at BK, a great venue for our practice - with a large yoga hall, space for meditation indoors and out, comfortable accommodation, extraordinary walking trails, and delicious vegetarian catering. The retreats are part of our culture of voluntarily sharing skills. We have between five and seven qualified instructors, including published authors and instructors with international experience. We mix up a combination of meditation, pranayama (yogic breathing), philosophy, outdoor exploration, yoga asana in many different styles, and space for you to get to know yourself and other yoga brothers around you. Winter 2015 Our winter retreat will be 14 - 16 August 2015. We will again offer the option of coming 24 hours early to get started with your meditation and
