108 Sun Salutations - getting naked to help Nepal!

Sunday 24 May 2015 - we'll be doing 108 hatha sun salutations to raise money for Nepal and those helping with emergency services. The funds will go to community organisations that we know directly on the ground in that country. Funds will be channelled through a South African registered NGO / NPO Trust and delivered to an equivalent indigenous peoples environmental and community development project in Kathmandu. The recipient organisation is working both in Kathmandu and the Mount Everest area. They are currently supplying tents, food and medicine to displaced people. If you can't make the yoga class, email us and we'll send you the South African NGO / NPO banking details. Deposits should be marked 'Nepal'. The NGO is audited annually so money will go in where it is meant to and be delivered where it is needed. The 108 sun salutations is an auspicious yogic event and we welcome you to be part of the experience. If you can't manage all 108 - don't w

Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation - 17 May 2015

This past Sunday we worked with a Yin Yoga practice. Yin is all about staying still, finding peace in a contemplative, motionless, gravity driven asana. The mind may want to leap around, but the anchored body is our place of focus, our refuge, our point of concentration. We can concentrate on the discomfort and pierce that with our mind, or we can let go of that worry and focus on the larger context of comfort and peace. The choice is ours. In this week's class we move in the opposite direction - it is all about how flow of the body and its energy lines creates a steady peaceful focus on the mind. Join us this week for a vinyasa flow yoga class where we integrate elements of t'ai chi movement, balancing, breath-work - with the aim of finding serenity within a natural flow of the body's ability to move. We run an all nude men's voluntary yoga space. Men of all backgrounds and abilities welcome. Beginners step on up to your first class. Donations are welcome. For

Get Naked for Nepal - CMY invites you to a fund raiser for the earthquake victims in Nepal

Sunday 24 May 2015 - CMY Naked Fund Raiser for Nepal Yoga is about having a heart and using your body to get it to work - both practically and emotionally. Join us for this very special event. On   Sunday 24 May  we will dedicate our regular Cape Men's Yoga class to a fund raiser to help relief work on the ground in Nepal. We'll be doing the sacred practice of 108 Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara) in homage to those who lost their lives and for all of those trying to pick up the pieces, nurse the grieving and the injured, and to rebuild their country. 108 sun salutations are not easy, so keep in mind that you need to practice, be in shape and know your limits. It takes about 90 minutes to get through the practice. We'll have two or more teachers coaching. As always, we'll be buck naked and sweating as we go through the cycle. We ask you to bring cash and donate generously. We'll be sending the money directly to people we know working on the ground

Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation: Fire & Ice Winter Retreat 14 - 16 August 2015

We have received the new prices for 2015. Bodhi Khaya is now VAT registered so all of our previous costs now have a VAT rate on top which has put up the prices since the summer retreat. This retreat will be 3 days and 2 nights, with the option of an extra day / night ahead of the main retreat. Nina is back as our vegetarian caterer, she has been the very best thus far and CMY are her biggest fans. The retreat involves a journey. We have multiple teachers of both yoga and meditation, as well as other forms of self-exploration through art, self-study, nature walks, ayurvedic practices (mostly rubbing yourself with almond oil first thing in the morning and climbing into cold water - for the fun of it). The journey is one of personal understanding and introspection as well as a collective journey of being with others, hearing their stories, loving them with an open heart and supporting their practice as they support yours. My estimate of the costing this season will be about R1

Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation Class - Special Yin Yoga Session this week

Sunday 10 May 2015 Yin yoga class this week. Yin is a static form of yoga that relies on gravity and letting go into the asana rather than using muscular strength. It works with yin energy - lunar, intuitive, unspoken truths of the body and mind.  Most yoga is yang, in that it is focussed on sun salutations and involves muscular strength and movement.  The asanas are held for approximately five minutes each. Some may be quite challenging others allow us to easily find a state of stillness.  Yoga has developed a reputation in Western countries for being another version of gym or pilates. Yoga is intended to developed the body - physically, in terms of flexibility, to boost the immune system and work with energy flow. However mentally, yoga is still premised on the idea of bringing the mind into a clear, still focus - the stilling of the waves of the mind. It is an exercise in concentration and letting go. Sukha and sthira are terms used in association with any yoga - comfor
