CMY - our June 2017 programme

Image
Cape Men's Yoga is celebrating its 6th year of energy this month. This all started after a trip to New York and a few classes with Hollis and the team at Nude York Yoga. South Africa is a conservative place in many ways, and Cape Town - though the most beautiful city on the planet - is sometimes like an uptight little village (*grin*). So the idea of getting a bunch of guys, off all different sexual orientations, cultures, races, religions, economic levels and ages to ALL get butt naked and do yoga together - well, there was not much hope it would last - but we all agreed that it would be fun to try.  We were amazed, moved, touched, inspired, brought to tears, brought to laughter, brought to love, to find how many men were willing to bare it all - dropping their shorts and their defences, letting themselves be truly authentic, honest and open - in a community environment, non-judgemental, kind and supportive. Big ones, small ones, skinny and beary, grey-haired, bald, gell...

Surya Namaskara clinic and special 108 cycles classes

Image
Cape Men's Yoga is proud to invite you to join a two part teaching session on the Surya Namaskara A / Sun Salutation A sequence. In the Hatha and Ashtanga yoga traditions, most yogis know to follow a basic sequential routine that involves most muscles in the body. These are the Surya Namaskara sequence - the honorific greeting of the sun and the new day. On Sunday 10 August 2014 we'll spend time teaching the hatha surya namaskara in detail - explaining and practicing each asana and developing confidence in the sequence. On Sunday 17 August 2014, we'll be doing a ritual observed by many yogis and ashrams around the world, of performing 108 full cycles of the Surya Namaskara to music. It is a physically challenging practice but powerful, meditative and liberating. It is a journey into the heart of yoga. We invite you to join us for this special event. It also provides for excellent training ahead of our Spring Awakening Retreat in the Overberg, 12-14 September 2014...

Get out your old sheep skin and turban - it is Kundalini time! 3 August 2014

Image
It is that time again - by popular demand, Guru Duncan is offering another nude men's kundalini class. Kundalini is a yoga practice which involves a series of repetitive movements that are designed to awaken our deeper spiritual energy and help us cleanse and dispose of unnecessary attachments. Many kundalini classes can feel extreme and a strain on the body. Duncan draws on his extensive hatha and vinyasa knowledge to combine the fiery energy of kundalini with the physiologically reliable movements of the other yoga practices. All this means that if you are a beginner, you'll likely survive. If you are a regular practitioner you'll get a thrill from this. All our classes deal with mind, body and spirit - through meditation and asana - this one also includes some elements of Sanskrit mantras. If you've been looking to dive on into your energy source - no better place to start. Class is for men only, it starts at 10h00 and finishes at 12h00 noon. Our new venue i...

We are moving! 11 May 2014 - our first class in the Central Business District

Image
Hi Yogi-men, After almost three years at our venue in Hout Bay - and many good memories of sweat and serenity - we are moving to a new venue in the heart of Cape Town. Some business support has provided us with a great space over the winter months for Cape Men's Yoga. We'll have our first male nude yoga session at 10h00 until noon on Sunday 11 May 2014. We hope the new venue will increase our accessibility and provide you with a clean and conducive environment to practice nude yoga. The floor is tile, instead of the old carpeted floors, which means you should be sure to have a towel in case you need to protect your knees during practice. You may also want to bring a water bottle with you. There are no showers but proper toilets available. Beginners are always welcome. If you are new to yoga, please contact the instructor in advance to discuss any medical or injury issues. Class will be a vinyasa-ashtanga style class - a dynamic and flowing practice, while keeping...

Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation - Sunday 09 February 2014

Image
Join us for another Cape Men's Yoga and Meditation session. Our practice is nude yoga - bringing the body, mind and spirit together in an honest and transparent way. The aim is to build a community of practice, able to learn together, teach together and support each other's journeys to a calm mind, healthier body and wholesome lifestyle. Men often come to the group because they are looking for something authentic, something that goes to the core of our modern challenges. We not only teach physical yoga, but also take time to explore how the mind and body interact, where happiness comes from, how to destress, and how to sustain a life that is meaningful and good-hearted. We all deserve happiness in life, and this is a space where we explore the meaning of such happiness. Can't touch your toes? Fine, time to start yoga this Sunday. Can't calm your busy mind? Fine, bring your mind with you and we'll help you find a practice to still the mind and open up your po...

Vinyasa nude men's yoga on Sunday 1 September 2013

Image
After exploring Kundalini with Duncan last week, we are back to vinyasa yoga this week. Vinyasa is a dynamic style which has emerged from the Pattabhi Jhois tradition of ashtanga yoga - an organised sequence of postures designed to develop flexibility and awareness. Vinyasa is typically sequenced to lead to the full use of the body, usually linked some some accompanying music. Yoga can be fun, it can also be challenging. If you've been looking to get more out of your life, come join us on this journey of sharing and self discovery. For class, you need your own yoga mat, a sweat towel, a water bottle and an open mind. Classes are free, donations are welcome for the cost of the venue. For more information email us on capemensyoga AT gmail.com Beginners are welcome.
