Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation - 30 July 2017

Image
We are back on the mat this week. We have been working with themes of inversions, strength, flow and opening up the body and mind. Winter is a great time to work with the body and have time for regular meditations - it is an introspective time with less of the issues of holidays and visitors. Come and get your naked on, step up to your mat and lets make this happen - flexiblity and happiness are something available to all of us. 10.30 to 12.15 at our Cape Town southern suburbs venue. All male, all nude yoga. Taught in classic style with meditation and yogic breathing. Bringing truth and wholeness to your practice. capemensyoga AT gmail.com whatsapp 082 579 6868 Namaste

Cape Men's Yoga - special inversions class - 31 July 2016

Image
Dear Yogis, We have a special class on inversions this Sunday, 31 July 2016. We are in the smaller yoga room, so we can only accommodate 10 guys. So please advise if you wish to attend or sign up on the facebook page. The class will include a warm up and then an introduction to handstands, headstands and forearm stands. These movements require both flexibility and strength in the shoulders and core. They also require some patience and a sense of humour. Guys who think they are going to jump up into a headstand or handstand will likely get injured. We aim for injury free practice so it is a great time to learn how to put your ego aside and build up a steady evolution in your practice that will take you to new positions and experiences. The class is 10.30 until 12.15 at our regular venue in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. This is a fully nude male yoga practice. We have extra mats for drop in visitors, otherwise bring your own mat and a sweat towel. The room will be heated....

Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation - special Yin Yoga class - 10 July 2016

Image
NAKED MEN'S YIN YOGA PRACTICE IN CAPE TOWN Join us for this special Yin yoga class. We will be teaching this unusual form of yoga - slow and using gravity rather than muscular strength. Yin draws on our lunar energy and the intuitive mind. Most yoga is 'yang' in that it is muscular and energetic. Yin allows us to let go, to let go of the physical effort and concentrate just on being. Yin is a way to explore the unexplored - to be mindfully exactly where we find ourselves.  Each posture is held for five full minutes - working through a sequence of floor postures where the focus in on the still mind rather than on the form of the asana.  This is arguably one of the most meditative styles of yoga. Though working without physical exertion it is still challenging and we confront our own mental reactions to comfort and discomfort, stillness and concentration.  We are at a venue in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. Beginners are welcome. It is a fully nude male practic...

Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation - 03 April 2016

Image
Welcome to Cape Men's Yoga blog page. Last week we explored the use of bandhas - the energy locks which intensify yoga practice and power up the cleansing fire energy of the body. We also took time to open up the shoulders and practice handstands. This week we will have another hatha flow class, exploring the use of breath, posture, the mind's focus and contractions of our muscles to create a harmonic approach to wellness and well-being. Whether you are a total newbie or an experienced yogi, you are welcome to join our community-based practice. Our teachers are all qualified and volunteer their time to build the community of practice. Our new venue in the southern suburbs of Cape Town is great! A real home for CMY. Plenty of parking and an ideal yoga hall. We start at 10.30 and the class runs for 2 hours - including meditation, yoga asana and breath-work. You need a sweat towel and a water bottle. It is best to have your own mat though we have extra for drop ins...

108 Sun Salutations - getting naked to help Nepal!

Image
Sunday 24 May 2015 - we'll be doing 108 hatha sun salutations to raise money for Nepal and those helping with emergency services. The funds will go to community organisations that we know directly on the ground in that country. Funds will be channelled through a South African registered NGO / NPO Trust and delivered to an equivalent indigenous peoples environmental and community development project in Kathmandu. The recipient organisation is working both in Kathmandu and the Mount Everest area. They are currently supplying tents, food and medicine to displaced people. If you can't make the yoga class, email us and we'll send you the South African NGO / NPO banking details. Deposits should be marked 'Nepal'. The NGO is audited annually so money will go in where it is meant to and be delivered where it is needed. The 108 sun salutations is an auspicious yogic event and we welcome you to be part of the experience. If you can't manage all 108 - don't w...

Cape Men's Yoga - Hatha nude practice 03 May 2015

Image
Naked Men's Yoga In Cape Town Join us again this Sunday, 3 May 2015, for another session of Cape Men's Yoga. This is a nude men's yoga and meditation practice offered for the betterment of society and for the growth of personal happiness. Our energy gets absorbed into so many things in life: work, relationships, our emotions, sucked up in technology, often wasted in our anxiety and confusion. The ancient Indian practice of yoga is a method to harness our inherent energy and learn to work with it for our wellbeing. It brings improved health, improved mental skills, reduces stress and creates the foundation for a new path in our lives. We welcome you onto the mat and to be part of our journey. Duncan will be teaching another of his beautiful Mysore Hatha flow classes this week. Duncan has spent another month in India on an advanced teacher training course. The class is fine for beginners or experienced yogis. You don't have 'believe' anything in partic...

Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation - Mysore Hatha Yoga Flow Class - 26 April 2015

Duncan has just returned from his advanced teacher training course in Mysore, India. This week he will be offering up a feast of yoga teaching.  This week we will be following a Hatha Flow class This is more dynamic, using a vinyasa sequence in between each asana. This flow is gentle, light but equally as powerful as the Hatha sequence we normally follow. Complete beginners to advanced practitioners are welcome to these classes.  We follow the eight limbs of yoga, particularly as it relates to Patanjali’s Sutras. Patanjali was a great yoga teacher who collected up the essence of yoga teaching in a collected set of sutras or short chapters. This means that asana (postures) are just one of eight tools to lead us to internal bliss. Asana - the yoga movement - together with breath, helps us to relax the mind and become better focused for meditation. Yoga helps us to become calmer and more compassionate people.  All you need is an open mind and open heart. Bring a mat, towe...
