Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation Practice over the Easter Weekend - 5 April 2015

Image
Easter Practice 2015 We had a great outdoor meditation last week. Our class focussed on yoga built around the second chakra - the svadisthana chakra of the pelvic area. The element is water. We explored how water meditations and pelvic / sacral yoga can help us let go of perceived problems, get the flow back in our lives, as well as get into some technical work with the sacrum and lower back that can be quite beneficial. We are having an Easter Weekend practice. After whatever fun, relaxation, chocolate or whatever is entertaining you, come and join us on the mat on Sunday morning at 10 am for another nude male yoga session. We'll likely be working with other chakra-based practice next week. Chakras are a yogic energy theory - spinning disks of energy are in a chain along the body - they are considered to be areas of focus of our character, how we are manifested in ,life, ranging from our material birth, through our temperament, character, creativity, enthusiasm, ability t...

Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation - Sunday 8 February 2015

Image
We are back from our amazing Summer Encounters retreat. We'll share some photos and stories from this rich experience of community and practice. This coming Sunday, 08 February 2015, Craig will be leading a yoga flow class that picks up on the theme of the crown chakra (sahasrara). This is the highest point on the body and is associated with our highest values, the greater meaning of the universe, and if you so believe, in the Creator, the universal energy, the Divine energy. It will be a regular yoga class with an uplifting focus and time for meditation on the blessings of life. CMY is a voluntary practice with qualified yoga instructors. It is a nude men's practice, every Sunday for two hours. Best to bring your own mat but we have extras. We welcome a diversity of men, from different backgrounds, levels of fitness, age, belief systems. The purpose is to build a caring community of practice - experiencing all of the yogic tradition including body movement (asana), me...

Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation on Sunday 21 September 2014

Image
After a superb weekend yoga and meditation retreat in the Overberg, with 28 members from several provinces, we are back on the mat in Cape Town this Sunday, 21 September 2014. The retreat explored the role of our spiritual faculties in getting us to move along our path, and the hindrances of the mind that can trip us up. We focussed on upper chakras and the notion that our path is one of spiralling in towards truth, and upwards towards inspiration and connection with the divine / the universal. You are welcome to join our wellness revolution. 2 hours of naked men's yoga and meditation in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Whatever your fitness, your age or your belief system, you are welcome to come and explore the mind-body-spirit relationship with us. If you are looking for greater flexibility, fitness, inner peace, self-acceptance or to meet like-minded men - Cape Men's Yoga is a great destination and journey of discovery. This week we'll be back at a v...

Naked and pure - a Hatha sequence connecting with the throat chakra - men's nude yoga practice 8 June 2014

Image
In our on-going series of men's nude yoga practices that follow upwards along the chakra chain, Duncan will be working with the throat chakra - visuddha - the chakra of purification, of mindful speech and compassionate listening. The element associated with the chakra is aether and the sound associated with this chakra is  हं  haṃ Duncan will be teaching part of his Mysore hatha sequence. This beautifully crafted sequence is ideal for beginners to yoga and yet still provides an opportunity for a profound and strong practice for more advanced yogis.  The practice is an all male, all nude yoga class. Nude? Yoga? What an Earth for? We started the class four years ago to create an alternative space in Cape Town for men interested in the mind-body-spirit connection and wanting to learn meditation and yoga in a non-judgmental, non-commercial space. After interacting with Nude York Yoga we decided to see if Cape Town's men were ready to drop their jocks and bare a...

Nude vinyasa yoga for men in Cape Town - 01 June 2014

Image
This week is a vinyasa yoga class working with the element of air and the anahata heart chakra. In the past few weeks we have been exploring the understanding of chakras in meditation, yoga and in achieving balance in life. Whether you experience this as something metaphorical, practical or metaphysical - it is an a pproach to understanding the mind - body relationships and where we are at in life.  Anahata is the seat of the heart, it is the place where we feel love, receive love, give love to all living beings in the world. The opening of the heart chakra is the path of all spiritual traditions. It is in the understanding of love that we understand the importance of ourselves and of others. It is with love that other types of suffering are healed and we move forward in freedom and light. Vinyasa is a flowing yoga form, built around the sequence of the Ashtanga series. We will have a qualified instructor and a qualified support instructor helping you with alignment and adjust...

Another great retreat - finding the connection between the elements and our lives

Image
It is a humbling experience. Imagine having a dream about connecting people and sharing life-skills to bring men into a supportive network of yoga practitioners in the full sense of the word. And then it happens! Twenty-one men gathered at the beautiful Bodhi Khaya retreat centre between Gansbaai and Stanford in Western Cape Province for a weekend of yoga and meditation. The theme of the weekend was exploring four basic elements: air, fire, water and earth and how these link to our understanding of ourselves and the India yogic system of chakras. The focus was on the lower chakras which are associated with the main elements and which are governed by the heart. One can take this literally or figuratively. In either form it creates a framework for considering how our body is truly made up of other elements which have come together in such a configuration that it permits us to be alive. And on another level it is a metaphor for how we live, how we balance our habits and attitudes to ...
