Call for deposits: Cape Men's Yoga Summer Retreat 2017


NAKED MEN'S YOGA RETREAT IN SOUTH AFRICA


We are approaching our 9th consecutive Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation Retreat, 19 - 22 January 2017. 


Bodhi Khaya is a superb venue with dams for swimming, a large yoga hall and meditation space, and wonderful walking trails including into the most southerly indigenous forest in Africa. The venue is near the charming coastal town of Gansbaai on the Cape Coast, about 3 hours drive from Cape Town, South Africa. 


Bodhi Khaya is not a nudist centre - nudity is part of our yoga practice and you are welcome to swim naked. Dinners are with at least your shorts on. 

There are different types of rooms: dorms that sleep 5 guys; twin rooms, luxury rooms with en suite bathrooms and themonk's cloister rooms with shared facilities. 

The monks rooms and twins are more or less the same price this year: estimated R2750 per person for the 3 nights. I have prices for the an additional night. Often some of the guys will come the day earlier to do yoga and meditate quietly before the full group kicks into gear. 

The retreat includes shared venue costs, 3 vegetarian meals a day, comfortable accommodation, tea and we bring our own coffee along. The R2750 is an estimate as the final price fluctuates slightly depending how many men attend. It is all not for profit for CMY and your contribution also helps subsidise the teachers - all of them internationally or nationally certified instructors. 

There is a lot of yoga, guided meditation events, nature walks, massage and a creative project for the group. We normally have between 20 and 27 guys per retreat. No drugs or alcohol are permitted during the retreat - it is a detox and technology free weekend in the Overberg. 

As a reminder you may only attend a retreat if you have a regular yoga practice. Beginners find the retreats too physically intense and this can cause an injury. You need to have the basics down to make good use of event. Members with disabilities are welcome with the same proviso about a regular practice. 

To secure a room, you will need to pay a deposit of R1100 per person by 25 October 2016. If you have a legitimate reason why you are not sure about whether you are free to attend, I can put you on a waiting list, but please understand it is first come first serve. 

Please feel free to invite friends from overseas or other provinces. It is the middle of the Cape summer and a glorious time to get naked and enjoy nature.

We have moved to our amazing new venue in Constantia in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. This beautiful space is well equipped for our men's naked yoga on Sundays. We've moved the time to 10.30 to 12.30 to fit in with the venue scheduling. We will have a naked yoga class this Sunday, 27 March 2016. We'll be explore the use of bandhas - the body locks which influence energy flow and protect the body from injuries. As we finally have good wall space we are also going to be doing an introduction to handstands. Handstands for some reason have become a craze on social media. That is not a good reason to learn them - but they are also interesting in teaching us about balance, about seeing the world from a different angle and in building up shoulder strength. Cape Men's Yoga & meditation - Sunday 1 May 2016

  SUNDAY 1 MAY 2016 Dear yogis - as you likely understood, we had to suddenly postpone last week's class. There was a break-in and accident at the yoga centre. The problem has been sorted out and Hector will be able to take the class this Sunday.  He will be working with the theme of intimacy of silence. Beginners are welcome.  We are pleased to announced that one of the most gifted of our new generation of teachers, Hector, will be taking the class this coming Sunday. Hector has trained in India and is accomplished Zen meditator and teacher. He combines his own experiences of body fitness, meditation and yoga to pull together a beautiful practice of mindful movement. Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation - special Yin Yoga class - 10 July 2016

NAKED MEN'S YIN YOGA PRACTICE IN CAPE TOWN Join us for this special Yin yoga class. We will be teaching this unusual form of yoga - slow and using gravity rather than muscular strength. Yin draws on our lunar energy and the intuitive mind. Most yoga is 'yang' in that it is muscular and energetic. Yin allows us to let go, to let go of the physical effort and concentrate just on being. Yin is a way to explore the unexplored - to be mindfully exactly where we find ourselves.  Each posture is held for five full minutes - working through a sequence of floor postures where the focus in on the still mind rather than on the form of the asana.  This is arguably one of the most meditative styles of yoga. Though working without physical exertion it is still challenging and we confront our own mental reactions to comfort and discomfort, stillness and concentration.  We are at a venue in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. Beginners are welcome. It is a fully nude male practice.
