Cape Men's Yoga & Meditation - Sunday 27 September 2015

is one of the most famous lines from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. The Yoga Sutras are considered the definitive ancient Indian work setting out the philosophy of yoga, examining the capacity of the human mind to achieve full liberation from our daily lives. It remains as rich and as fresh for the student as it did thousands of years ago when it was composed.

Yoga citta vrtti nirodha means yoga is the stilling of the waves of the mind - nirodha is the description of the attainment of blissful tranquility which is our natural state when the mind is not agitated.

In yoga asana (following the postures of yoga), we have the opportunity to strengthen the body, improve flexibility, massage our internal organs, work with our endocrine system, destress and generally use the body's own capacity to improve health and well-being. Under that is the deeper journey towards a sense of happiness, connection, balance and integration.

Yoga won't stop crap from happening. That is part of life. However it can help us deal with the shocks and sometimes to turn what seems to be unpleasantness into a new experience of learning and wisdom.

Join us this week for two hours of naked men's yoga and meditation. Get your body and your life moving in the direction that will last at least a lifetime.

This week we continue to explore the issues of strength, balance and intentional focus in yoga. Having worked in detail with core strength, standing postures, caturanga, arm balances and other foundational poses, this week we'll be branching out into the function of twists and rotations, the use of external movement to create impacts on the endocrine systems and organs inside the body.

Beginners welcome. Bring your own mat and sweat towel, an open mind and your body in whatever state you found it.
