Going on Retreat 29 January to 01 February 2015

Dear reader,

This is to let you know that the Summer Encounters Retreat is FULLY BOOKED!

NOTE: THERE IS NO CAPE MEN'S YOGA CLASS IN CAPE TOWN ON 1 FEBRUARY 2015

Cape Men's Yoga goes on retreat in the Overberg every six months. These are popular events and include a diverse offering of yoga, meditation, self-knowledge work, nature walks, ayurvedic activities, great vegetarian food and the fellowship of our team.

A retreat is a time to deepen our practice. Though it is also a time to enjoy the countryside and good company, it is part of a spiritual and mental regime that is meant to help us understand ourselves better, sharpen some of our skills of working with mind and body. It is a learning opportunity. It can be a lot of fun. It can also be a time where hidden pain comes to the surface, unresolved grief, and other emotions that we try to avoid the rest of the time.

A retreat creates a safe space for this exploration and awareness. The methodologies help ensure that we don't bounce around too much but come to focus on our path of healing, wellness, insight and figuring out which yoga and meditation practices are helping us move forward on our path.

On retreat you may want to observe silence in the morning, particular before breakfast. It is important also to not follow your normal patterns of chatter or skating around with social niceties but speaking of things that are important to you, listening to those who are speaking, or just being present in the moment.

Problems of debts, deadlines, unresolved issues can disrupt a retreat. It is important as much as possible to clear your plate when you come on retreat so you can leave those mundane issues aside and concentrate on the practices of the weekend.

The full retreat programme will be shared with the participants. Summer Encounters, our 2015 theme, deals with relationships, meetings, acknowledgement and 'gnosis' - knowing at the deeper level of intuition, silent mind, spirit.

We have elected to focus on four relationships: your relationship with nature; your relationship with yourself and particular with your own mind; your relationship with those around you; your relationship with the higher energy of the universe, be that God, Goddess, spirit, energy, dhamma - however you conceive of the greater order or chaos of the universe we live in.

You are not required to do all of the yoga and meditation. You choose what is going to work for you. You need to work within the current capacity of your body and mind, with the will to experiment, explore and surprise yourself.

We look forward to sharing this journey with you. If you missed the summer retreat, our next retreat to the Overberg will be in mid-August, our winter retreat.

Namaste
